Phishing attempt at many hotmail and live email account

The old MSN Hotmail inbox

Image via Wikipedia

As per BBC NEWS and Microsoft's site there has been a big phishing attempt on several e mail accounts specially hotmail and live email accounts were compromised so if you have logged in on your hotmail or live account during the last weekend then check out whether your account is safe or not and even if you have not logged in its better to change your password. It's said that the email id and password were posted on a site named http://pastebin.com/ said to be used by developers for code purposes but as per some other sites it's used by many people for sharing such things from last few months.

Phishing :

In the field of computer security, phishing is the criminally fraudulent process of attempting to acquire sensitive information such as usernames, passwords and credit card details by masquerading as a trustworthy entity in an electronic communication. Communications purporting to be from popular social web sites, auction sites, online payment processors or IT administrators are commonly used to lure the unsuspecting public. Phishing is typically carried out by e-mail or instant messaging, and it often directs users to enter details at a fake website whose look and feel are almost identical to the legitimate one. Even when using server authentication, it may require tremendous skill to detect that the website is fake. Phishing is an example of social engineering techniques used to fool users, and exploits the poor usability of current web security technologies. Attempts to deal with the growing number of reported phishing incidents include legislation, user training, public awareness, and technical security measures.

A phishing technique was described in detail in 1987, and the first recorded use of the term "phishing" was made in 1996. The term is a variant of fishing, probably influenced by phreaking, and alludes to baits used to "catch" financial information and passwords.

Microsoft Word

Image via Wikipedia

I was working on my thesis and every time I opens  a new Word document the default font becomes Calibri and I have to make Times New Roman every time. After going through some tutorials I found the following tutorial useful so sharing with you.

How to change the style of the default font in Word 2007

To change the style of the default font in Word 2007, follow these steps:
  1. If you do not have a document open, create a new document that is based on the Normal template.

To do this, click the Microsoft Office Button, click New in the New Document task pane, click Blank Document, and then click Create.
  2. In the Font group, click Fonts.
  3. Select the font, the point size, and any attributes that you want in the Fonts dialog box.
  4. Click Default.
  5. Click Yes when you receive the following message:
Do you want to change the default font to font name?
This change will affect all new documents based on the NORMAL template.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Click the Microsoft Office Button, and then click Word Options.
  8. In the Customize tab, select Commands Not in the Ribbon in the list, and then select Save All.
  9. Click Add, click OK, and then click Save All in the customized Quick Access Toolbar.

Note If Word prompts you to save the new blank document, click Cancel. If you want Word to prompt you to save the changes to the Normal template, follow these steps:
    1. Click the Microsoft Office Button, and then click Word Options.
    2. In the Advanced tab, click to select the Prompt before saving Normal template check box in the Save group.
