KAILA DEVI FAIR
28 March 2009
Approximately 2 lakh devotees gather during the fair. The ritual of Kanak-Dandotis is observed by staunch devotees. They cover a distance of 15 to 20 Kms to reach the temple, not on foot but by lying prostrate, making lines with their hands in that position, advancing up to the line drawn and repeating this procedure till they reach the temple.
Groups of Meena tribesmen arrive in a spirit of gaiety – dancing, singing and creating a lively atmosphere. The spacious courtyard becomes the venue for dances and songs sung in praise of the guardian deity.
The nearest railhead is Hindaun at a distance of about 48 Kms. Shri Mahavirji is another railhead of the Western Railway near Kaila. The site is approachable by well maintained roads from Karauli, Hindaun and Mahavirji. During the fair, the State Transport as well as private operators provide bus services keeping in mind the huge inflow of pilgrims.

MEWAR FESTIVAL, UDAIPUR
29th - 31th March 2009
The Mewar Festival is celebrated to welcome the advent of spring. It coincides with the festival of Gangaur in Udaipur, and has a unique charm about it. The women folk gather to dress the images of Isar and Gangaur and then carry them in a ceremonial procession through different parts of the city. The procession winds its way to the Gangaur Ghat at Lake Pichhola. Here, the images are transferred to special boats amidst much singing and festivity. Once the religious part of the festival is over, it is time for cultural events where Rajasthani culture is portrayed through songs, dances and other programmes. The festival culminates with an impressive fireworks display.

GANGAUR FESTIVAL
GANGAUR FESTIVAL 29th - 30th April 2009 |
Gangaur is one of the most important local festivals in Rajasthan. In some form or the other it is celebrated all over Rajasthan. “gan” is a synonym for Lord Shiva and “gauri” or “gaur” stands for Goddess Parvati, the heavenly consort of Lord Shiva. Gangaur celebrates the union of the two and is a symbol of conjugal and marital happiness.Gangaur is celebrated in the month of chaitra (March-April), the first month of the Hindu calendar. This month marks the end of winter and the onset of spring.
This festival is celebrated especially by women, who worship clay idols of “Gan” & “Gauri” in their houses. These idols are worshiped by unmarried girls who seek the blessings of Gan and Gauri for a good husband, while the married women pray for the good health and long life of their husbands.
This worship which starts form the first day of the chaitra month culminates on the 18th day into Gangaur festival with a great religious fervour. On the eve of Gangaur festival, women decorate their palms and fingers with henna. The idols of Gan and Gauri are immersed in a pond or in a near by lake on the last day of the festival.
A traditional procession of Gangaur commences form the Zanani- Deodhi of the City Palace, passing through Tripolia Bazaar, Chhoti Chaupar, Gangauri Bazaar, Chaugan stadium and finally converges near the Talkatora. The procession is headed by a colorful pageantry of elephants, old palanquins, chariots, bullock carts and performance folk artistes.

IPL to be held in SA from 18th April to 24th May
England was not considered as the venue due to the inclement weather that prevails in the month of May during which England’s domestic season would be also be starting. There was a fear that 70% to 75% of IPL matches would be affected by rain and weather if England was chosen as the venue. Even though some of the franchisees preferred England as the venue, there was always an alternate available for IPL and that was South Africa. Further while shifting IPL out of India, it was promised that the first match of the day at 4.00 PM and the second match of the day would be at 8.00 PM, Indian Standard Time. IPL had assured the Indian viewing public that the prime time for watching the match on Television would not be compromised. This timing could be achieved more practically in South Africa than in England.
The first match of the season will be played on 18th April 2009.
Matches will be held in 6 cities - Johannesburg, Durban, East London, Centurion, Port Elizabeth and Cape Town, which will also hold the Opening Ceremony.
There will be total six venues for the matches across South Africa.
