The Students of the 565 Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) schools in the county have shown exemplary results in the Central Board of Secondary Education exams this year. The NVS schools have the highest pass percentage of 94.09 for Class XII, amongst all categories of schools, as against the national overall percentage of 81 per cent. For class X also, they have the highest pass percentage of 97.84 percent as against the national pass percentage of 88.84 per cent. 72 students from the NVS have been selected to the main list of IIT this year. Not only is the overall pass percentage the highest for NVS, children getting more than 90 per cent are at 8.32 per cent, also the highest amongst all categories of schools, the overall percentage for the country being 5.94 percent.
Two other centrally administered school organizations, the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan Schools, and the Central Tibetian Schools have the 2nd highest pass percentage at 91.32 per cent and the 3rd highest at 91.15 percent respectively for Class XII. For class X also, the KVS have the 2nd highest overall pass percentage among all schools at 96.35 and the Central Tibetian Schools have the 3rd highest pass percentage at 92.77.
The Navodaya Vidyalaya Schools take 75 per cent of their students from rural areas. The education in these completely residential starting from class VI is completely free and a large number of students are from the weaker sections of society.
