$ 80,000 per song fine for copyright infringement

In one of the famous case involving a single mother accused of illegal sharing of song through peer to peer network Kazaa  in turn violating the copyright violation. The federal jury ruled that Jammie Thomas Rasset under the pseudonym "tereastarr" violated the copyrights on 24 songs and awarded penalty of $ 80,000/- per song totalling $ 1.92 Billion to be payed to recording companies.
