so far I have seen Public Administration is definitely the winner, there is a huge positive scaling in this subject as expected due to paper being quite a tough by standard.
Any idea about other optionals?

Anonymous said...

i m bit disspointed as my score is well below what i calculated...dont knw the reason

Deepti said...

commerce scaling is not huge but definitely postive.......

harry said...

I agree with naresh regarding positive cutoff boost in public admin wherein 63 became 126 post scaling...history however saw a downslide in terms of scaling wherein 177 became 150....I can only say that strange are the ways of scaling!

Anonymous said...

My score is 228.11
Not really disappointed as I was expecting around the same figure. But certainly disappointed with the cut-off marks. Last time it was 193 for general. Cut-off went up by almost 30 marks , thats quite a number.

how is scaling done

sharma said...

Hi all, i am a bit disappointed with the way of scaling. There is no fault of candidates opted for optionals other than pub. ad. All papers should be of same standard. I can only feel sorry for history and yes i do agree with harry that strange are the ways of scaling. Aspirants with history optional make sure that they score 200/200 next time because u never know that u can be scaled down to 100.

Naresh said...

Scaling formula adopted by RPSC :

your marks = M+(X-m)S/s

M = the overall mean of the obtained marks
X = Raw marks obtained
m = mean of the particular subject
S = standard deviation of all the marks obtained
s = standard deviation of the particular subject

Hi friends.. i can see that scaling is not a very big hit, atleast in this blog. I do sympathise with those who have been a victim to this process. However, friends u must take note of the fact that scaling is also applied in mains exam, in which case, it is even more unpredictable. The logic behind scaling seems to be the fact that you are positively rewarded for performing exceptionally well, but will be deducted lot of marks in case you perform below the average marks achieved by others. So all i can say is be cautious in ur choice of optional subjects in mains exam as well to avoid last moment disappointments.. anyways, i have sociology as my subject in prelims and there has been huge positive scaling..

Naresh jee..Is there any authenticated key available for RAS2008 public admin prelimn paper

Naresh said...

hi Harry,
certainly there is authentic key of Pub Admn but that is only with RPSC and it seems RPSC not want to share it like Chiattishgarh Public Service Commission.
Herman Vishnoi upload one but that too was not correct in many aspect, I myself tried but not get many of the answer so dropped the idea.

Rajendra meena said...

friends,u r trying 2 challange the formula that is accepted by upsc and suprime court of india.so u should focus yr studies rather than thinking about scalling.

Anonymous said...

friends can anyone of you provide me papers of zoology botany mains....rajmeena24@yahoo.com....i got 270 marks in pre and selected for mains ....help me duds...

Naresh said...

Hi Raj,
dear its not available on net as far as I know, you can have those from any book depot in Jaipur mainly in tonk phatak area,
also I want to add that RPSC not give mains paper for home so all these are based on memory retention of candidates but are near accurate.
cheers !

sitaram sharma said...

hi, friends .......... scalling is totally a rational process... it depends on deficulty level of of the paper.. so dont think about .. focus on ur study.... good luck.. can you tell me about RAS mains dates

Anonymous said...

Dear Naresh,
You are such a resourceful person for RAS. I appreciate your helping attitude. Do you have any idea if RAS mains papers (latest with 2007 papers) are available in Delhi too?

Regards,
Tripti

Naresh said...

Hi Tripti,
I think you will get those from Jawahar book depot or area near Batra Cinema, mukherjee Nagar, if not get from any of these you can arrange those from Jaipur.

RAS ki vacancies kab tak nikalne ki sambhawna hai aur kitani nikal sakati hai ?

Naresh said...

RPSC is working as per calendar so one can expect in this year only, may be around Sep-Oct. As more BDO posts are created so definitely expect more but I think not more than that of RAS 2007 vacancies.

Hi Naresh ,

I am software engineer in gurgaon and belong to jaipur. I have started preparation for RAS and
select history and geography subject.
History for pre exam.

I just see some comments on this blog about scaling and i am in tension now regarding -ve scealing of HISTORY. Please tell me more about
this process and suggest me i am right or wrong to choose these subject. History is one of my fav subject.

Manish Dadhich

Naresh said...

Hi Manish Histroy is good subject to opt and seeing ur interest in the subject u must opt it and don't worry abt Scaling and other facts as we should not worry abt things not in our hands. To summarise scaling is a method to neutralise the benefits if any available to those subject whose paper is much easier than others and not make huge difference to the serious students much.

manish said...

Hi Naresh ,
Thanks for reply. I do agree with you that we should not worry abt things not in our
hands but do you think history paper is much easier than Pub. Ad , so RPSC do -ve scaling for History.

Can you suggest me some useful book for history , geography and related to Rajasthan.

hi naresh,i m preparing for ras and my sub is mining engg and geography.can u tell me that where can i get previous year paper of mining engg and can u tell me the bookes name related to geography and notes.......
can u tell me that which sub is easy-pub add or geography ?

Naresh said...

@ Manish : its difficult to get previous year papers of Mining Engg as not many opt for the optional and as you might know RPSC not give paper to take that with you so its little difficult but you can ask some bookstall in Tonk Phatak Area. Regarding Geo books I am not sure. Pub Admn is good optional for RAS but for IAS you need extra effort in it.

@ Surbhi : you can opt mechanical engg. and mathematics; I think you are talking about mechanical engineering as mechanics is not a subject and its a part of physics and other engg. subjects

HI Mr Naresh ....
seems you have ability to give right guidance ..I am engineer with ( electronic & comm brach) ...In RAS i have decided to take GEOGraphy & ELECTRONIC ENGGG. I am comfortable with Either......tell me whether it is wise to go on with Electronic ( i consider Scaling) ...

RAJ SINGH

Naresh said...

@ Raj : if you are comfortable in Electronic Engg then there should not be any reason to not opt this optional, go for it. Scaling's impact is beyond one's hand and one who perform well are always in advantageous position.

hello naresh
is civil engineering and maths better option for ras mains, right now i am in 2nd year and want to know how should i start preparing for ras exam, please give me idea about vacancy scenario after two years from now,,,is ras preparation a better idea??????please do reply.........i am in big confusion as i am likely to get a good job in private sector.........but love to serve state.....

Anonymous said...

hi naresh
can a person from another state can give ras exam ,,,,

Anonymous said...

and does the same thing goes right for the other states psc exams also,,,,,,,,,,

Naresh said...

civil engg and maths are good subjects to opt if u have command over the subject. But i wud suggest to go for IAS as there you will get better career prospects although in a year or two the pattern of IAS exam may have some drastic changes so look for it. But what these exam check is your common sense and your awareness abt ur surroundings so have a clear concepts in ur mind and u can easily crack it. good luck.

Naresh said...

Hi,
yes anyone can give the RAS exam if one fulfill the eligibility conditions and there is no domicile rule as such in the PSC exams but various states has there own method to isolate the other state candidates like by making language paper compulsory or by including state specific papers.

Anonymous said...

what are the chances for a male candidate from general category to crack ras exam, around how many seats are out there for general males,is preparation for ras a better idea for a candidate belonging to general category.

Naresh said...

the no of seats vary year by year and there are good chances for male gen ctg if one is lucky enough enough along with a good intelligence.

Anonymous said...

why so much stress on luck ,is it really difficult?
